Grow 1: Week 6: 1st Male Cull

So far the grow has been operating for about 49 days and 11* potted plants have been in bloom/flower phase on a 12:12 light cycle for about 11 days. Supposedly 2-weeks into flower is when it becomes "easy" to sex the plants. Seeing very rapid growth. This was the first week I was able to positively identify and cull a male plant that was developing pollen sacs.

[Rosin Tech] 1st attempt: Filter Bags

The fine folks over at http://midwestdrysift.com/ are getting into the mesh filter bag business and are doing all of their manufacturing in Ohio. After chatting with them I decided to order a custom run of bags sized for my press plates in two different sizes – 125 micron mesh for pressing flower and 40 micron mesh for pressing hash. Not entirely enthused with the results of my first test with flower.

Grow 1: Week 5: Flippin' Out

So far the grow has been operating for about 35 days and 11 potted plants were just switched to Day 1 of bloom/flower phase. The plants are growing fast and despite close examination I've been unable to determine sex; getting anxious to cull the males and reduce the number of plants that need care and feeding. This was the main reason why I decided that this was the week to flush and flip.

It's legal. Let's do this.

As of today adult use marijuana is legal in Massachusetts and that includes home growing for adults over 21. I’ve never grown before but what the heck. I’m an adult. I live in Boston. Let’s do this. This site will document my experiences as a total cannabis growing newbie. I’m generally interested in “smart” technologies so this site will also be used as a playground for seeing if and how I can automatically stream or publish environmental conditions (temp, humidity, CO2, etc.

Grow 1: Week 1: Update

So far the grow has been operating for about 6 days. Seeds went into wet/warm soil starter containers on Day #1 and we had sprouts by day 4. Each day since we’ve seen growth and new sprouting. So far ~10 seeds out of 15 have sprouted. They look a bit “reachy” but I have no experience so who the hell knows … Original setup: 15 small germination containers with soil base Warming mat w/ thermostat controller set at 85F Wet paper towel laid over the containers to retain humidity Paper towel removed as soon as sprouting was observed 2inch plastic dome on germination tray to retain humidity No lights Day 5 Modifications: Installed a seed/germination-specific T5 florescent grow lamp & stand T5 light running 24x7 (have not set up the timer yet) Replaced the 2inch plastic humidity dome with a much larger one Lessons Learned Biggest lesson was realizing that a seed/germination specific T5 light should have been purchased upfront, they really do need a different light setup when germinating.
